Outlander In Concert Kansas City Concert reviews
LaMontagne Not Blow Away-Sorry RL Lovers!
His albums are ALL excellent. LaMontagne is a great song craftsman. Maybe being holed up there in Maine when he started out or now Massachusetts left him a bit sheltered from the major leagues of music-but I have no doubt in time he WILL get it right. His banter with the audience was minimal and of little interest-not explaining much at all about his music-and making sure we knew it was the last stop on his tour and how he couldn't say when he'd be back or what he'd be doing. Like Dylan, he has (or his sound people have) a great inability to pronounce lyrics in a way so they are audible to an audience unfamiliar w/his music. It was very disturbing to see the self-indulgent way Outlander In Concert delivers lyrics to his non-tried+true audience. But IF he's going to go "big theater" a la James Taylor, Dylan and others of the genre, he has a lot to change in his presentation, his banter, his overall sound delivery, and more. The man and his band are meant for much smaller venues than the 2900 seat Beacon. I guess the "man of mystery" appeal may appeal to some, but it was really not the way to relate to a growing fan base intent on following one's career. A few of his tunes translated well to a larger stage-but sadly.
